Elkhart Co. has state's highest unemployment rateNortheast Indiana counties had some of the highest seasonally adjusted unemployment rates in the state in October, according to figures released today by the Department of Workforce Development.
Elkhart County led the state with an unemployment rate of 10.7 percent. LaGrange County was second highest, at 10.4 percent. Noble County's unemployment rate was 9.5 percent, or fourth highest.
For October, Indiana's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 6.4 percent, an increase of 0.2 percent from the previous month.
Nationally, the unemployment rate was 6.5 percent.
Seasonally adjusted October unemployment rates for other northeast Indiana counties were: Adams, 7.1 percent; Allen, 5.9 percent; DeKalb, 8 percent; Huntington, 6.7 percent; Kosciusko, 7.6 percent; Steuben, 7.7 percent; Wabash, 7.1 percent; Wells, 5.3 percent; and Whitley, 6.2 percent.
