To the State Legislators in Indiana
Why are we not seeing any display of leadership in Indiana on illegal
alien problems created by governments both selective and lack
enforcement of our laws. A very few state legislators have shown any
spine on the matter (Only 18 on a recent house bill, vote) and
congress is not much better.
Its not a matter of recreating or inventing the wheel, look around
and then follow the real leaders around the country that are tackling
this mess and demand strict enforcement of present federal laws in
Indiana on harboring, encouraging and employing illegals.
I would be interested in Rep.Borders( one of the 18 that did vote
against illegals) and Senator Watermans answer why they didn't push
enforcing this or passing laws. From a recent article in the Sullivan
Times I take it Rep. Borders challenger Mr.Mike Bledsoe thinks it's
only a federal issue, so should we expect him to do anything?
Senator Waterman and his Challenger Steve Thais both claim to be
against illegal aliens, perhaps the Senator can give us the number of
some bills he sponsored, co-sponsored or voted on that supports this claim?
Anybody have an answer before election day?
I got this reply today, to an article I posted on the
http://www.ifire.org forum. The original post was
about the coming problem of illegals in Terre Haute and the Wabash Valley.
Especially since the Federal government has not been doing it's job
for years it is now left up to the states and cities "to do the job
our federal government won't do."
In Sec8USC1324. There is a section under Enforcement that was set up
in 1996. For local & state police to get into a program under 287(g)
to become qualified to arrest illegals.
Here is the link:

And here is the section I talked about it states: about the police:
-------
State and local law enforcement officials have the general power to
investigate and arrest violators of federal immigration statutes
without prior INS knowledge or approval, as long as they are
authorized to do so by state law.
There is no extant federal limitation on this authority. The 1996
immigration control legislation passed by Congress was intended to
encourage states and local agencies to participate in the process of
enforcing federal immigration laws.
Immigration officers and local law enforcement officers may detain an
individual for a brief warrantless interrogation where circumstances
create a reasonable suspicion that the individual is illegally
present in the U.S. Specific facts constituting a reasonable
suspicion include evasive, nervous, or erratic behavior; dress or
speech indicating foreign citizenship; and presence in an area known
to contain a concentration of illegal aliens.
At any rate what I ran into was is called 287 (g) program. Not
knowing exactly what that was I did some looking the info up. Here is
what I found out about it.
287 (g) is a section in the 1996 Immigration Act... one has to sign
what an MOU (Memorandum Of Understanding) with ICE/FBI along with 287
(g) is a sophisticated fingerprint and facial ID program.
I have added some links to farther explain it to you.

Make the elected officals aware of these already existing laws. Ask
them why they are NOT enforcing them.
