I wrote a letter to Evan Baye...4-9-06...LOL...and he just now sent a reply...6-20-06! First I'll show you the letter I wrote him:
Senator Bayh:
I am writing in regards to the Illegal Alien issue. Illegal means illegal! These people have broken the law! How can you possibly think of rewarding them? They should be punished...they should be put in jail! These people are stealing from us on a daily basis if you really think about it...stealing the incomes of American citizens who need those jobs to support their families. LEGAL immigration is fine...but these people aren't...they've broken the law and should be treated as such. PLEASE DO NOT SUPPORT ANY LEGISLATION THAT WOULD REWARD ILLEGAL ALIENS FOR BREAKING THE LAW!
OK...here's his reply:
Dear Mr. Gambrel Jr :
Thank you for contacting me regarding the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act. I appreciate your thoughts and concerns on this serious issue.
This legislation seeks first and foremost to secure our borders. During the debate, I voted in support of an amendment, that passed, that would construct a fence along parts of the United States-Mexico border. Additionally, the bill contains tough border enforcement provisions including the hiring of 4,000 new border security agents, unmanned aerial vehicles, cameras, sensors and other technologies to prevent illegal movement across the border, 1,000 new inspectors to investigate violations of immigration law, and makes it a felony punishable by 20 years for constructing a tunnel under the border.
I am concerned about the potential negative impact that the new guest worker program in the bill may have on American workers. That is why I voted to strike the entire guest worker program. It must not be allowed to become a low-wage replacement program for American workers.
Border security is only one part of the solution to the complex problem of immigration reform. The bill deals with the dangers posed by an open border as well as the security risk of having 12 million people already in the country but living in the shadows. An undocumented immigrant living in the United States can be put on a path of earned legalization only if he or she 1) pays $3,250 in fines and fees; 2) pays all back taxes; 3) passes a security and criminal background check; 4) learns English; 5) passes a medical exam; 6) learns U.S. history and government; 7) is eligible for a temporary worker program;
remains continuously employed going forward; 9) gets to the back of the line behind all applicants waiting for green cards; and 10) has been in the country more than 5 years. Only after this 10-step, 11 year, process is completed, will an undocumented immigrant be eligible for legalization.
The Senate passed the Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act on May 25, 2006 with a bi-partisan majority. The legislation will now have to be reconciled with the bill passed by the House of Representatives. Any final bill must include strong provisions to secure our border or I will not support it. Please know that as a final agreement on immigration is considered by the Senate, I will keep your views in mind.
Again, thank you for contacting me. I hope the information that I have provided is helpful. My website,

Now...to me...Evan doesn't look like he's on the side of the American worker at all! How can giving our jobs away to "guest workers" possibly be good for us? He's taking care of "somebody"...but it sure aint the people he was elected to represent! I'm writing him a letter and telling him just that! I strongly urge all of you to do the same!
