Great minds think alike! I agree with Jody that our governor is talking out of both sides of his mouth. He is part of the problem and needs to be replaced. See my post comparing our gov. to Rhode Island's governor in the General Discussion portion of the IFIRE forum. Vote for Jill Long Thompson for governor.

Federal, state governments fail to act on illegals
LETTER
March 28, 2008 - 6:30AM

To the Editor:
Indiana has an estimated 55,000 to 85,000 illegal immigrants living here and the taxpayers are paying about $5 million a year for Medicaid health care for them, plus more money coming from the federal government.

Now, after some sense of hope for finally seeing some sort of effort to confront some of this problem, our state legislators couldn't pass a bill that was a step in the right direction.

I say write a new bill with enough teeth in it to uphold the laws of this nation in our state. If we wait for the feds to do anything, we might as well wait for the big freeze you know where. We need to start right here at the state level. If other states want to tolerate illegals and broken laws, that's their choice. We should not be a sanctuary.

Gov. Mitch Daniels came to Seymour on March 20 and was asked by a local businessman about illegal immigrants. The answer came from both sides of the governor's mouth. He said he was disappointed that the bill (sponsored by Sen. Mike Delph, R-Carmel) didn't get passed. Then he said we needed illegal immigrants for jobs. Then he blamed the problem on the federal government. My, my, my. The whole blame is not on the Feds.

Every state in this nation is accountable for this problem. Each town, city and county does not have to put up with this. As far as the jobs, maybe citizens from other states would move here to fill those jobs. You know, the type of citizen who pays taxes and has to be responsible for their own health care and, oh yeah, are legal citizens of the United States.
