See the new report by Indiana's own Edwin S. Rubenstein, "The Fiscal Impact of Immigration: An Analysis of the Costs to 15 Federal Departments and Agencies, published in The Social Contract. View the report and associated charts.
According to the World Bank, Mexico's GDP (Gross Domestic Product) is ranked 10th in the world. Canada is 9th. In 2003, Mexican workers in the US sent $12 billion home to Mexico. President Fox said that is "our biggest source of foreign income, bigger than oil, tourism or foreign investment." Why, then, is the mayor of Indianapolis giving free rent to the Mexican Consulate in Union Station? One of the main functions of the Consulate is to sell Matricula Consular identification cards to illegal aliens to make it appear they are here legally.
Did you know that 25% of illegal aliens (and 1/3 of legal immigrants) use at least one major welfare program? How do they do this? They can "prove" they are in the country legally with forged or stolen documents. Who pays for this? You do.
Between the Family Social Services Agency, English as a Second Language and the Department of Corrections, the State of Indiana spends nearly $365 million per year on Hispanics alone. There are many other costs associated with illegal aliens. For example, hospitals lose millions of dollars treating them each year. These costs are passed on to citizen taxpayers in the form of higher medical bills and higher insurance premiums.
We want to know how much of our money is being spent on illegals and we want it to stop. INquiring minds want to know! (Read the latest news from Indiana.)
